Security Policies

Joining many premier sporting and entertainment venues throughout the country, Pimlico Race Course has again enhanced security procedures for the 2008 Preakness Stakes and Black-Eyed Susan to allow our guests to enjoy the day in a safe and secure manner with a minimum of inconvenience. Please take a moment to review the following hospitality and security measures in order to maximize your enjoyment of the tradition, fun and excitement of the middle jewel of Thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown.

New Policy for 2008 - Alcoholic beverages (including beer and wine) will NOT be allowed to be brought into the Grandstand or Clubhouse facility on Black-Eyed Susan Day and Preakness Day.

Special Cooler Restrictions For Pimlico’s GRANDSTAND AND CLUBHOUSE on Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Days and INFIELD on Preakness Day:

  • GRANDSTAND AND CLUBHOUSE: COOLERS, BACKPACKS AND THERMOSES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED. You must bring your beverages and food items in CLEAR, plastic bags or CLEAR, SEE-THROUGH plastic containers, not larger than 18" by 18". 


  • TURFSIDE TERRACE AND CLUBHOUSE TURN RESERVED: COOLERS, BACKPACKS AND THERMOSES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED. No outside food or beverage items allowed. 

  • TOP OF THE STRETCH: Coolers larger than 12" x 12" will be prohibited. 

  • INFIELD: Coolers, backpacks and thermoses will be permitted – no bulk or oversized carrying devices allowed. Coolers larger than 28"L x 15"w x 17"h will be prohibited.


Items that guests may carry into Pimlico’s GRANDSTAND AND CLUBHOUSE on Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Days and INFIELD on Preakness Day:

  • Alcoholic beverages (including beer and wine) will NOT be allowed to be brought into the Grandstand or Clubhouse facility on Black-Eyed Susan Day and Preakness Day. Soda, individually carried in plastic containers or regular-size cans, and Picnic Lunches are permitted (please see COOLER RESTRICTIONS above) 

  • INFIELD ONLY - Beer, Wine & Soda, individually carried in plastic containers or regular-size cans, and Picnic Lunches (please see COOLER RESTRICTIONS above) 
  • Beach blankets and suntan lotion

  • Cellular phones, cameras (up to 35mm), camcorders and binoculars 

  • Lightweight plastic lawn chairs (INFIELD ONLY) 

Items that are PROHIBITED anywhere at Pimlico on Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Days:

  •  Liquor or Drugs of any kind 

  •  Weapons of any kind 

  •  Tents

  •  Hibachis or barbeques

  •  Ladders, scaffolding or other raised devices

  •  Kegs of Beer (including keg balls)

  •  Bulk or oversized carrying devices

  •  Non-folding, or folding metal furniture

  •  Hand carts, or wheeled carts

  •  Glass containers of any type 
     

Inspection and security measures:

  •  All persons and their camera bags, purses and all containers entering Pimlico grounds are subject to direct physical search, or indirect search by wanding or magnetometers.

  •  Pimlico reserves the right, without any refund of the ticket purchase price, to refuse admission to or eject any person whose conduct is deemed by Pimlico to be disorderly, or who is under the age of 21 and possesses alcohol. 
     

Hospitality Enhancements:

  • While supplies last, Black-Eyed Susan & Preakness Day, ice, (& soft-sided coolers Preakness Day only), are available for purchase.


Traffic Patterns:

     In order to maintain smooth traffic flow and minimize inconveniences for vehicles traveling to Pimlico on Black- Eyed Susan and Preakness Days, the following changes in traffic patterns will be made: 

1.      Rogers Avenue will be closed to all vehicle traffic from Winner Avenue to Northern Parkway from 10:00 p.m. Friday, May 16th until 9:00 p.m. Preakness night, May 17th.

2.      Winner Avenue will remain one-way Northbound from Hayward Avenue to Rogers Avenue beginning at 10:00 p.m. Thursday night, May 15th until 9:00 p.m. Preakness night, May 17th.

3.      Winner Avenue will remain two-way from Rogers Avenue to Northern Parkway until 5:00 p.m., Preakness night, May 17th.

4.      Winner Avenue will become one-way Northbound from Rogers Avenue to Northern Parkway beginning at 5:00 p.m. Preakness Day, May 17th to 9:00 p.m. Preakness night.

5.      Hayward Avenue will be one-way Eastbound from Park Heights Avenue to Winner Avenue beginning at 7:00 a.m. Preakness morning, May 17th until 3:00 p.m. Preakness Day.

6.      HORSEMEN - A temporary one-way entrance for automobile traffic to the Hayward Stable Area entrance will be created through the Press Lot behind Barn E, accessible via Winner Avenue, beginning at 5:00 a.m., Black-Eyed Susan morning, Friday, May 16th until 9:00 p.m. Preakness night, May 17th.

  • Officials at Pimlico suggest that fans arriving at Pimlico by car on Preakness Day allow sufficient time for convenient access in entering the track. Facility admission gates, and the Infield open at 8:00 a.m. on Preakness Day with a first post of 10:30 a.m. The Clubhouse Turn Reserved, and the first crossover to Corporate Village and Turfside Terrace, open at 10:00 a.m.
