What is The Preakness Stakes?

The Preakness Stakes is a historic American thoroughbred horse race held on the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. It is known as the Middle Jewel (second race) of the famous Triple Crown series of horse racing which includes the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.

Ticket Policies
Is it safe to buy tickets online?

Yes, and the only authorized seller for Preakness and Black-Eyed Susan Day tickets online is Preakness.com, with our ticketing partner, Ticketmaster. Other secondary market websites with tickets available are not affiliated in any way with Preakness and the Maryland Jockey Club and purchaser assumes all risks.

Are any tickets sold the day of the event?

Depending on availability, a limited amount of tickets will be available on the day of the event.

I would like to purchase the same seat as 2024, how can I do so?

As a benefit for Weekend Package buyers, customers from 2024 will be able to purchase the same seats for 2025 (or similar, if no longer available). Single event purchasers will be able to place deposits for the Weekend Package to have first access to the best available seats prior to the general public and after renewals.

Can I visit a friend in another section or can a friend visit me in my section?

No, only ticket holders are permitted in their designated sections.

Will there be General Admission Tickets this year?

Currently, there are no General Admission tickets available.

How do I access my tickets?

Weekend Package tickets can be accessed by logging in through the Maryland Jockey Club Account Manager at www.preakness.com/myaccount on your mobile phone’s browser. Tickets will not be visible on account until early April. More information to access tickets will be emailed at a later date.

Can I have multiple tickets on my phone?

Yes! You will be able to swipe left and right through your available tickets by tapping on the event under the “My Events” tab in account manager.

What if I don’t have a smartphone or have additional questions about mobile ticketing?

If you do not have a smartphone, please contact our Customer Service department at 1-410-542-9400 or email info@marylandracing.com for assistance.

What if I need help day of, a broken device or battery issues?

For your convenience, we will have staff available on site to assist with any mobile inquiries. A dedicated team of experts will also be available at every entrance to ensure that all ticket holders can enter as quickly as possible. You may also visit the Ticket Office. Please have a valid ID for the name on your ticket.

Can I refund/exchange tickets if I can’t use them?

No refunds or exchanges are given.

Where is my wristband? When will it ship?

Wristbands will be distributed on the day of the event for Clubhouse Dining and other Premium & Suite areas and will not be shipped. Tickets for these areas will be scanned a second time upon entrance to the designated area and a wristband will be issued for each ticket. The wristband will allow for easy re-entry.

Is there re-entry if I leave the venue?

No, re-entry is not permitted once you leave the race track. Every individual entering must have a valid, unscanned ticket to enter.

How old do you have to be to place a bet?

18 years of age.

Can I bring my children and do they need a ticket for BES or Preakness Day?

Yes, and they must be under adult supervision at all times.
Seating: Children under the age of 5 do not require a ticket as long as they don't occupy a seat. If the child under the age of 5 does require a seat, you will need to purchase a ticket for that seat at full price. 

How do I get to Pimlico Race Course?

1. 95 North:  I-95 N to 695 W, Take exit 18 Lochearn (Liberty Road), Go down 7 traffic lights and make a Left turn on Northern Parkway, make a Right on Park Heights Ave, follow signs for parking.
2. New York/Philadelphia/New Jersey/Delaware/Northern/Baltimore County: I-95 S to 695 W, take 695 W to I-83 S, take I-83 S to Northern Parkway West and follow signs for parking.
3. Inner Harbor: I-83 N to Northern Parkway West and follow signs for parking.
4. Frederick: I-70 E to 695 W (follow directions for 695 W from 5N).
5. Harrisburg: 1-83 S to 695 W (stay on this for a short while before getting back on I-83 S), take Northern Parkway West and follow signs for parking.

What are the closest MTA Routes?

LOCAL BUS – Local buses 30, 31, 34, 85, 91 and 94 all stop near the track.

LIGHT RAILLINK – Take Light Rail to the Cold Spring Lane stop. Connecting shuttle bus service from Cold Spring Lane to Pimlico runs between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and return shuttle service to Cold Spring Lane ends two hours after the end of the last race.
A $4.60 day pass is required.

METRO SUBWAY – Take Metro Subway to Rogers Avenue station. Connecting shuttle bus service from Rogers Ave to Pimlico runs between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and return shuttle service to Rogers Ave ends two hours after the end of the last race. A $4.60 day pass is required.

MARC TRAIN – From Penn Station, take the Penn-Camden shuttle bus to the North Avenue Light Rail stop then take a northbound Light Rail train to the Cold Spring Lane stop. Connecting shuttle bus service from Cold Spring Lane to Pimlico runs between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and return shuttle service to Cold Spring Lane ends two hours after the end of the last race. A $4.60 Day Pass and MARC Train ticket is required.

When does the Post-Position Draw for the Preakness Stakes occur?

The Post Position draw takes place the Monday prior to the Preakness.

Can I re-enter Pimlico after leaving?

There will be no re-entry into the Grandstand/Clubhouse/Concourse, or facility.

Where can I smoke?

Smoking is not permitted in the paddock area or any other indoor area.
Smoking is permitted on both the Clubhouse and Grandstand Apron in designated smoking areas only.  Smoking is prohibited in all seating sections.   

What is the earliest time I can get into Pimlico?

Black-Eyed Susan Day gates open at 10:00 a.m. for the Facility.
Preakness Day the gates open at 9:00 a.m. for the Facility.

Where do I cash in my winning ticket?

How to cash your Maryland winning ticket or credit voucher:
The Maryland Racing Commission requires that all winning tickets and credit vouchers must be cashed within one year of their issue. 
These can be redeemed in person at any Maryland Intertrack or OTB site, or by mail.

Is this a rain or shine event?

Yes.  This is an outdoor event so plan accordingly if inclement weather is in the forecast.  No refunds will be issued due to the weather. 

What can I bring into the facility?

The following items are PROHIBITED EVERYWHERE on Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Days*:
• Drugs or weapons of any kind
• Outside food or beverage of any kind
• Glass containers of any type
• Tents
• Umbrellas of any kind
• Balloons, balls, and Frisbees
• Drones of any kind
• Selfie Sticks
• Camelbacks or water bladders of any kind
• Chairs or folding chairs of any kind
• Hibachis or barbecues
• Ladders, scaffolding or other raised devices
• Bulk or oversized carrying devices
• Non-folding, or folding, metal furniture
• Hand carts, or wheeled carts
• Backpacks & duffle bags
• Smoking and vaping are prohibited in all indoor and seating sections. Please use designated smoking areas.
• Any animal except for service animals or service animals in training.
• Personal bags, including purses larger than 18X18.
• Clear bags larger than 18X18.
• Empty, clear, disposable water bottles.
• Any other item deemed dangerous or inappropriate by Event Management

All persons entering Pimlico and their camera bags, purses and containers are subject to direct physical search or indirect search by wanding or magnetometers.

Are there shuttles from the parking lots to the building?

SUBWAYLINK

• FREE shuttle service runs between Rogers Avenue and Pimlico from 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Return service begins after the race and runs for 2 hours.

LIGHT RAIL

• FREE shuttle runs to Pimlico from 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
• Return service begins after the race and runs for 2 hours.

Accessible Seating

Pimlico Race Course offers many services and amenities to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities. It is our belief that the needs of our guests with disabilities should simply be an extension of the same courtesies that we tender to all guest and employees. Wheelchair accessible seating sections are as followed:

All public elevators are Pimlico Race Course are accessible to our guest. Elevators can be found at the following location:

Restrooms

Restrooms can be located on Clubhouse Levels 1,2 and 3. Grandstand Restrooms are located on the 2nd Level and Concourse restrooms are located on the 1st level

Concessions

Concessions can be found on the 1st Level of the Clubhouse, 1st Level Concourse and 1st ,2nd , and 3rd level of the Grandstand.

Guest Services

There is a Guest Service Center located on the 1st Level of the Clubhouse year-round. An additional site is available on the 1st level of the Grandstand Black Eyed Susan and Preakness Day.

Service Animals

Service Animals are allowed at Pimlico Race Course. All other animals and pets are prohibited.

Parking

We have 4 designated parking lots on site for Black Eyed Susan and Preakness Day. It is recommended you purchase parking ahead of time as parking may be full or limited for day of sales.

Tickets

The Preakness Ticket Office is located outside of the Grandstand Entrance during the week of Preakness. Open Monday through Friday 9:30am-5:00pm. For more ticket information call the Ticket Office at 877-206-8042

What time should I arrive for Preakness?

We suggest fans arriving at Pimlico by car on Preakness Day allow sufficient time for convenient access in entering the track. Facility admission gates open at 9:00 a.m. on Preakness Day with a first post of 10:30 a.m.

Traffic flow will be the lightest before Noon, and wait times could be lengthy between Noon-3 p.m.
The Preakness post is around 7:00p.m.
