6-2-2-0 $360,716

After needing five tries to break his maiden, Dynamic Impact made himself a winner in his stakes debut, rallying for a nose victory over favored Midnight Hawk in the Grade 3 Illinois Derby on April 19.

Under jockey Miguel Mena, Dynamic Impact pressed the early pace set by Midnight Hawk, who extended his lead to 1 ½ lengths in the stretch before Mena moved outside to run down the favorite and emerge from a photo finish as the winner after nine furlongs in 1:49.07.

The Illinois Derby win came seven weeks after Dynamic Impact caught another front-runner, Knock Em Flat, to take a one-mile dirt maiden race at Oaklawn Park by a neck as the favorite in a field of eight.

Purchased for $125,000 as a yearling by trainer Mark Casse, Dynamic Impact was winless in three starts as a 2-year-old. He didn’t debut until late September and was second by a neck in his second race over Keeneland’s Polytrack in October.
