GoldMark Farm & Whisper Hill Farm  

            T. Paul Bulmahn, founder of ATP Oil & Gas in 1991, owns GoldMark Farm, which is based in Ocala, Fla. An author and philanthropist, Bulmahn is also an entrepreneur in the offshore development of oil and gas, large animal training, alternative energy source and media production industries.

            In 2006, Bulmahn opened GoldMark farm as a thoroughbred training facility. He also serves as a principal in Planet Green Solutions, Inc., and campaigned multiple graded stakes winner Backtalk with trainer Tom Amoss in 2010.

            Whisper Hill Farm is owned by Amanda Pope, who made headlines when she purchased 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace for a record $10 million in November 2012. Pope, 58, began by working with broodmares at George Steinbrenner’s Kinsman Stud in 1980 before starting the Citra, Fla.-based Whisper Hill operation, which has grown from 55 to nearly 300 acres and produced Grade 3 winner Bearpath.

            Owner of Rutherford Oil Corp., an independent oil and gas exploration and production company founded by his father in 1927 and based in his hometown of Houston, the 74-year-old Rutherford bases his breeding operation at Manchester Farm, which he purchased in 1975.

            The 270-acre farm overlooks the rear entrance to Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. Rutherford is best known for his homebred Lakeway, a four-time Grade 1 winner, and Cara Rafaela, the dam of 2006 Preakness winner and Eclipse Award-winning 3-year-old male Bernardini.

            Rutherford won his first stakes race with Native Lovin in the 1976 Riley Allison Futurity at Sunland Park. He and his brother, Pat, own and operate a 24,000-acre cattle ranch and 10,000-acre ranch in Texas.
