3 Year Old Colt Midnight Lute Stage Stop
10-2-3-2 $477,695

Purchased as a yearling for $150,000 at Fasig-Tipton’s July 2011 Keeneland sale, Mylute cashed in a $60,000 payday for finishing a closing fifth in the Kentucky Derby on May 4, beaten less than four lengths by Orb.

Breaking from post six, Mylute was forced to steady early under jockey Rosie Napravnik and raced near the far back of 19 horses before passing tired foes on the outside in the slop at Churchill Downs.

A gray son of 2007 champion sprinter Midnight Lute, Mylute had a similar wide come-from-behind performance in his previous start, the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby on March 30 at Fair Grounds, but came up a neck short to Derby third-place finisher Revolutionary.

Seventh in the Grade 2 Risen Star to kick off his 3-year-old season and third in the Grade 3 Delta Jackpot, Mylute owns two wins in 10 career starts, his maiden victory over the artificial surface at Arlington Park and a 10 ¾-length optional claiming allowance romp at Fair Grounds, the latter his only other time under Napravnik.
