Awesomemundo Wins Allaire Dupont Distaff

BALTIMORE, 05-19-12 – Natalie J. Baffert’s Awesomemundo fell far back early before rallying to win the $100,000 Allaire DuPont Distaff Stakes (G3) Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

The Bob Baffert-trained filly completed the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:44.70, winning by just a head over Love and Pride after a contentious battle to the finish line.  Catch a Thief took third.

Skyring Captures James Murphy Stakes

BALTIMORE, 05-19-12 – Trainer D. Wayne Lukas saddled Skyring to win the $100,000 James W. Murphy Stakes, his second stakes victory in as many races on Saturday’s Preakness Day undercard at Pimlico Race Course.

Ridden by Joel Rosario, Skyring captured his first stakes triumph in his first start on the turf. The bay colt ran the one mile on the turf in 1:35.64, besting Easy Crossing at the finish by just a neck. Mr. Handsome finished third, a nose behind Easy Crossing.

Hamazing Destiny Wins Maryland Sprint

 BALTIMORE, 05-19-12 – Westrock Stables LLC & Barry Butzow’s Hamazing Destiny sat off a spirited duel before surging past the leaders to win the $100,000 Maryland Sprint Handicap (G3) Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

Corey Nakatani rode the son of Salt Lake for legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas. Hamazing Destiny ran the six-furlong distance in 1:10.48 and finished 1-1/2 lengths ahead of Bandbox, with Action Andy rallying to take third.

Winning for the first time in two years, Hamazing Destiny paid $7.80.

IL Villano Streaks To Chick Lang Stakes Win

BALTIMORE, 05-19-12 – Chuck Russo’s Il Villano broke on top when betting favorite Innocent Man went to his knees at the start, then surrendered the lead to the betting favorite, only to take it back for good at the top of the stretch on his way to victory in the $100,000 Chick Lang Stakes Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

Il Villano, under jockey Jose Flores for trainer Susan Crowell, completed the six-furlong distance in 1:10.40, prevailing over late closer Laurie’s Rocket by 4 ¾  lengths. Favored Innocent Man finished third.

T M Fred Texas Takes President Of UAE Cup

 BALTIMORE, 05-19-12 – Shiek Joann Bin Hamad K. H. Al-Thani’s T M Fred Texas continued his domination of North American Arabian-bred horses, romping to victory in the $75,000 President of UAE  CUP (G1) Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

Zagora Dominates In Gallorette Handicap

 BALTIMORE, 05-19-12 – Martin S. Schwartz’ Zagora and jockey Javier Castellano found all the room they needed in the stretch to launch their rally and win the $150,000 Gallorette Stakes (G3) at Pimlico Race Course Saturday.

The Chad Brown trainee completed the 1 1/16-mile test on firm turf in 1:41.73 as the even-money favorite. Speak Easy, who led from the start, held on to finish second, 1 ¾ lengths behind the winner. Laughing, who chased Speak Easy all the way around, edged Smart Sting to take third.

Baileys Beach Takes Deputed Testamony

BALTIMORE, 05-19-12 –  Joey P Stables’ Baileys Beach pressed the action, drew even and then pulled away to win the $25,000 Deputed Testamony Stakes, the first of nine stakes events on Saturday’s Preakness Day card at Pimlico Race Course.

Ridden by Javier Santiago for trainer Hugh McMahon, Baileys Beach completed the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:46.15, prevailing by 3 ¾ lengths over Strangerinthenight, who rallied to take second away from a game but tiring Albrecht.

Alternation Noses Out Nehro To Win Pimlico Special

BALTIMORE, 05-18-12 – Pin Oak Stable’s Alternation withstood a late charge by Nehro to eke out a victory in the 42nd running of the $300,000 Pimlico Special (G3) by a nose.

The return of Special after a three-year absence, and the $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan (G2) highlighted the People’s Pink Party program that benefited the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure on a sun-drenched afternoon at historic Pimlico.

Coup Captures Hilltop Stakes

BALTIMORE, 05-18-12 – Augustin Stable’s Coup carried John Velazquez to his third winner on Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan Day card, capturing the $100,000 Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico Race Course with a strong stretch run.

Seanchai and Anna Sophia battled for the lead in the 1 1/16-mile test on the firm turf but could not hold off Coup in the run to the finish line. Coup prevailed by a length over Seanchai while running the distance in 1:42.71. Ainsley finished third.

Sensible Lady Upsets In The Very One

BALTIMORE, 05-18-12 – Three Lyons Racing’s Sensible Lady upset the field in the $100,000 The Very One Stakes at 24-1 odds Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

Jockey Xavier Perez, who notched his first stakes victory at Pimlico, sent Sensible Lady after favored Inspired and the 3-year-old filly swept past the pacesetter in a flash to score by two lengths. Sensible lady ran five furlongs in :56.13 over the firm turf.  Jazzy Lady rallied to be second.  Inspired faded to third.
