For over 20 years, the Woodlawn Vase has been escorted by the Maryland National Guard in their dress uniforms, donning white gloves before the Preakness Stakes. There is a changing of the Guard every 15 minutes. At the end of the ceremony the Vase is transported back to the facility by armed guards for safekeeping.
The United States Cyber Command, National Security Agency/Central Security Service Joint Service Color Guard from Fort Meade is comprised of all branches of the military. They will present the colors during a patriotic song paying tribute to the military on Armed Forces Day.
In 2018 we were honored to welcome members of the United States Naval Academy’s esteemed Glee Club who will be performing, “Maryland, My Maryland” during the Preakness Post Parade. The USNA Glee Club is the most active of the Naval Academy’s musical ensembles and has achieved prominence as one of America’s premier choral ensembles. They have been performing for the Preakness Post for the past 20 years.
The United States Navy Parachute Team, The Leap Frogs, began in 1969 when Navy SEALs and Underwater Demolition Team members volunteered to perform at weekend air shows. The Team was officially commissioned The Leap Frogs in 1974 by the Chief of Naval Operations with the mission to demonstrate Navy Excellence throughout the United States.
The B-2 carries a crew of two pilots and is capable of striking targets anywhere in the world. 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the B-2’s first flight. The innovative aircraft is a symbol of American air power and the legacy of the men and women of America’s premier bomb wings — the 509th Bomb Wing and the Missouri Air National Guard 131st Bomb Wing.
