Dave Rodman

One of the nation’s elite race callers Dave Rodman has been the voice of the Maryland Jockey Club since March 1991 and will be calling his 24th Preakness Stakes on May 17. His call of the thrilling 1997 finish when Kentucky Derby winner Silver Charm nipped Free House, Captain Bodgit and Touch Gold remains one of the greatest in modern history.Rodman doesn’t only call the races informatively; he comments on them expertly. He paints pictures and tells stories, employing suspense, surprise and even humor. The 55-year-old spends hours each day handicapping for his “Today At The Races” show on the Pimlico Race Course and Laurel Park simulcast signal.Prior to coming to Maryland he was announcer at Jefferson Downs and Louisiana Downs. A native of New Orleans, Rodman served a media apprenticeship at Fair Grounds Race Course and was a top 40 disc jockey at WTIX AM radio in his hometown. Besides his duties at Pimlico and Laurel, Rodman has called the races at Colonial Downs in Virginia since that track opened in the late 1990’s and handles race calls during the Maryland State Fair meet at Timonium.
