Entered as the first also-eligible in the Kentucky Derby, Pablo Del Monte drew into the body of the race with the scratch of Hoppertunity but was instead pointed to Baltimore rather than break from post 20 in Louisville.

A Florida-bred son of 2000 Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up Giant’s Causeway, Pablo Del Monte began his career last year with a pair of wins over Keeneland’s Polytrack before ending his freshman campaign running fifth as the favorite in the Grade 3 Generous over the Hollywood Park turf.

Pablo Del Monte made his dirt debut at Gulfstream Park over the winter, finishing fourth in the Gulfstream Park Derby on Jan. 1 and third to Wildcat Red in the Grade 3 Hutcheson.

Given a six-week break, Pablo Del Monte returned to set the pace in the Grade 1 Blue Grass at Keeneland before being passed by Kentucky Derby contenders Dance With Fate and Medal Count to wind up third, beaten 3 ½ lengths.
