Will Take Charge
3 Year Old Colt Unbridled's Song Take Charge Lady
One of five Preakness contenders to come out of the Kentucky Derby, Will Take Charge ran in midpack until making a five-wide move with a quarter-mile to run, only to run into traffic at the three-sixteenths pole and winding up eighth, two spots behind stablemate Oxbow.
A chestnut son of Unbridled’s Song, Will Take Charge had beaten Oxbow by a head in their previous start, the Grade 2 Rebel, which was his third race at Oaklawn Park over the winter, following a win in the $150,000 Smarty Jones and a sixth-place finish in the Grade 3 Southwest.
Under Joel Rosario, who won the Kentucky Derby with Orb, Will Take Charge debuted at Saratoga Race Course last August, running fifth of eight. He broke his maiden over the artificial surface at Keeneland in his next start before finishing last of 13 in his stakes debut, the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club.
Will Take Charge closed his juvenile campaign by being caught on the lead by 128-to-1 long shot Texas Bling in the Remington Springboard Mile.
