Carpe Diem
3yo Colt Giant's Causeway Rebridled Dreams
6-4-1-0 $1,519,800

No worse than second in his first five starts, four of them wins, Carpe Diem was under a tight hold early but in contention to the top of the stretch of the Kentucky Derby before tiring to finish 10th, beaten nearly 11 lengths as the 7-1 third choice in a field of 18 horses.

Latin for ‘seize the day,’ Carpe Diem was a professional winner of his debut last fall at Saratoga Race Course before rolling to a 6 ¼-length victory in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland in just his second start.

Sent off as the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), the normally forwardly placed Carpe Diem rallied from well back to edge Upstart by a nose for second behind Texas Red.

Carpe Diem was an easy winner of the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) March 7 in his first start following a winter freshening, and he returned with a similarly impressive triumph in Keeneland’s 1 1/8-mile Blue Grass (G1).

Purchased for $1.6 million as a 2-year-old in training last March, Carpe Diem has earned $1,519,800 from six lifetime starts.
