BALTIMORE, 04-21-09---Pimlico Race Course today launched a new and improved website for the 2009 Preakness® Stakes, the middle jewel of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown.
The redesigned www.preakness.com site will feature unparalleled coverage of the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes at the historic Baltimore track on Saturday, May 16, 2009.
“The people spoke and we listened,” said Kerry Carlson, Vice President of Marketing for Magna Entertainment Corp (MEC)., Pimlico’s parent company. “Over the last few months we’ve been working hard to bring a whole new Preakness experience to the web. Overall, our updates have focused on providing fans with more functionality and more information and organizing it all in an easily digestible manner.”
“Andrew Carnegie once said ‘Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision’ and that’s what happened here. We asked the parent company for an improved website for our marquee event and MEC delivered,” said Pimlico president Tom Chuckas. “We consider the Preakness to be The People’s Race and the new site will provide comprehensive coverage of one of the world’s premier events.”
In one of the new features, the Preakness Tradition section includes an interactive timeline and other historical mini-stories to help revisit the prestige and history that goes along with The People’s Race. The all-new Visitor’s Guide provides dining locations, including the full menus at some of Baltimore’s finest restaurants.
There is also a dedicated InfieldFEST section to reflect the improvements made to the Preakness Infield experience. Preakness InfieldFEST, presented by Bud Light, will feature a concert with three rock performances, including Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top, Grammy-nominated Buckcherry and Baltimore-based Charm City Devils. In addition, the Toyota Pro Beach East Volleyball Tour will kick off its 2009 season with a special one day professional women’s beach volleyball doubles tournament and an interactive area will be housed under a 40' x 80' tent. Sixteen ounce cups of beers will be available for $3.50 with bottled water just $1.
Once the Kentucky Derby takes place the first Saturday in May, the Preakness “contender” pages will be unveiled as the field for the middle jewel of racing’s Triple Crown unfolds. The pages will include videos, photographs, past performances and detailed bios on the owner, trainer, jockey and breeder of each horse that will be competing in Maryland’s signature race.
Barn notes will be produced daily while several bloggers and columnists will provide original content on what makes the Preakness a unique event.
Under the new Race Info section, fans will find an area titled Wagering 101, which is designed to break down the barriers associated with the complexities of handicapping by explaining wagering simply. For the more advanced handicapper, the Bet the Preakness section gives access to four expert handicappers who will share their race analysis and picks for the 16 stakes races on Preakness weekend.
