BALTIMORE, 05-18-13– Tim E. O’Donohue’s Debt Ceiling closed from off the pace to capture the $100,000 Rollicking Stakes for 2-year-olds Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.
Making his second career start following a debut triumph at Laurel on March 30, Debt Ceiling caught leader Silvertonguedtommy in deep stretch to prevail by 2 ½ lengths. The son of Discreet Cat ran five furlongs in 1:00.27 under jockey Eric Camacho.
Sweet Emma, the 2-5 favorite, was outrun by Silvertonguedtommy for pacesetting honors and faded to fourth. Silvertongedtommy, ridden by Garry Cruise, held second while New Zone finished third.
Debt Ceiling, who is trained by John Robb, paid $12.20 to win.
ROLLICKING STAKES QUOTES
Jerry Robb (trainer, Debt Ceiling, winner)–“We’ll go back to Laurel after this. We were just pointing to this race. There aren’t a lot of spots for him right now. His first race, he was not really ready and we didn’t expect him to run as well as he did. But he was ready for this one.”
Tim O’Donohue (owner, Debt Ceiling, winner)– “I picked him out at Keeneland ($27,000) and I really liked his eye. It was like the eye of a tiger and he was very professional. He was the total package and his family – the runners are very precocious.
Eric Camacho (jockey, Debt Ceiling, winner)– “I wasn’t planning on being that far back because every time this horse ran or worked, he broke sharp. We schooled him behind the dirt which probably helped him get the work today. It wasn’t the first time he had dirt kicked in his face. We’ve been very high on this horse for a while.”
