Jockey Joel Rosario started the Preakness card with a victory on Aussi Austin in an allowance/optional claiming race around at a mile and a sixteenth.
Aussi Austin was the favorite in a nine-horse field in a two-turn race. He broke from the 1-hole, and Rosario let him save ground along the rail most of the way before swinging him out for the stretch run en route to a 2 1/4-length victory.
The favorite breaking from the rail in a two-turn race with a nine-horse field – does that sound familiar?
Rosario certainly wouldn’t mind such a trip on Orb in the Preakness.
