Kegasus Gets Acquainted With The Infield
“Lord of the InfieldFEST” arrives at Pimlico promising legendary experience
BALTIMORE, 05-16-11---Kegasus, the Lord of the InfieldFEST, made his first Preakness week appearance at Pimlico Race Course on Monday to survey his kingdom and spread the word about what he promises to be a legendary event.
A modern twist on the mythical centaur, half man and half horse, Kegasus was bestowed with his title on March 29, and has spent the past seven weeks in and around the Baltimore community promoting InfieldFEST, a multi-entertainment festival celebrating Saturday’s 136th running of the Preakness Stakes.
“Welcome, legendary friends, to what is soon to be the most epic place on the planet,” Kegasus said. “Legendary times are guaranteed.”
InfieldFEST features appearances by Grammy Award-winning artists Bruno Mars and Train, along with Phil Vassar, Puddle of Mudd and local favorites Hotspur and Mr. Greengenes, performing on two stages.
The popular Beer Garden is back, serving $2 drafts from 8 a.m. to noon as well as the MUG Club, offering bottomless mugs of beer all day for $20, in addition to regular infield admission. More taps and servers and larger mugs have been added this year.
“Legendary-ness includes being responsible and using common sense,” Kegasus said. “As lord and overseer, I will be watching over all to make sure all are protected, and that all are guaranteed a truly legendary time.”
In order to properly preside over the festivities, Kegasus does not plan to partake until after the event’s conclusion.
“I will wait until after InfieldFEST to raise a mug and feast on nature’s most perfect food: the whey-enhanced cheese doodle,” he said.
Though he will not wager on the Preakness itself, Kegasus offered his prediction for Saturday’s race.
“Who else but my man, the animal. Animal Kingdom,” he said. “I think if you wanted to use Mucho Macho Man for the exacta, it’s a safe bet.”
Kegasus will have two 30-minute media sessions on Saturday at his man-stall, located in the Beer Garden, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. He will also make appearances around the infield all day.
“I have never considered being Lord of the InfieldFEST a job. It is an honor,” he said. “I would tell people to expect a truly legendary party experience.”
