Attendance Record Set As American Pharoah Wins 140th Preakness

BALTIMORE, MD., 05/16/15 – A record crowd of 131,680 fans watched American Pharoah win the 140th Preakness Stakes Saturday afternoon at Pimlico Race Course setting the stage for him to try and become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

The record crowd surpassed the previous record set last year of 123,469.

BALTIMORE, MD., 05/16/15 – Zayat Stables’ American Pharoah romped over the sloppy track at Pimlico Race Course to register a seven-length victory in Saturday’s 140th Preakness Stakes (G1), earning an opportunity to make a bid for a Triple Crown sweep in three weeks.

BALTIMORE, MD., 05/16/15– Juddmonte Farms’ Fame and Power led every step of the way for a front-running three-length victory in Saturday’s 18th running of the $100,000 Sir Barton for 3-year-olds at Pimlico Race Course.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert and ridden by Martin Garcia – who will team up again in the 140th Preakness Stakes (G1) with Grade 1 winner Dortmund – Fame and Power ($6) ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:41.67 over a fast main track for his first career stakes win.

American Pharoah Favored in Early Wagering for Saturday’s 140th Preakness

BALTIMORE, MD., 05/15/15 – At the close of Friday’s early wagering, Kentucky Derby (G1) winner American Pharoah was the 3-5 favorite for Saturday’s 140th Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course. 

As of 7 p.m.,  there was $39,754 in the on-track win pool for the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown. American Pharoah was favored at 4-5 on the morning line in a field of eighth 3-year-olds.
