Apart Gets Up To Win William Donald Schaefer Memorial Stakes

     BALTIMORE, 05-21-11 –Adele B. Dilschneider’s Apart overtook Colizeo in deep stretch to win the $100,000 William Donald Schaefer Memorial Stakes (G3).

     Ms. Dilschneider, jockey Garrett Gomez and trainer Al Stall, who shared today’s victory, won last year’s Schaefer with  eventual 2010 champion older male Blame.

No Explaining Surges to Win Omnilife Gallorette Handicap; Shared Account Finishes Fourth in 2011 Debut

     BALTIMORE, 05-21-11 – Harlequin Ranches’ No Explaining (IRE) came off the rail and powered to victory in $100,000 Omnilife Gallorette Handicap (G3) over the turf course at Pimlico.

     Shared Account, the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Fillies & Mare Turf winner, closed from off the pace to finish fourth while conceding 10-13 pounds to her rivals in her 2011 debut.

Ventana Prevails in AMResorts Maryland Sprint

     BALTIMORE, 05-21-11 – Karl Watson, Michael E. Pegram & Paul Weitman’s Ventana  prevailed over Immortal Eyes following a hotly contested stretch duel to win the $100,000 AMResorts Maryland Sprint Handicap (G3) this afternoon at Pimlico Race Course.

     Jockey Travis Dunkelberger, aboard Immortal Eyes, claimed foul against Martin Garcia, the rider of Ventana, claiming interference during the late stages of the stretch run, but the stewards did not rule in his favor.

Chinglish Takes James W. Murphy Stakes

     BALTIMORE, 05-21-11—Jerry & Ronald Frankel’s Chinglish ran down the pacesetters through the stretch to win the $100,000 James W. Murphy Stakes Saturday afternoon at Pimlico Race Course.

     Covering the mile distance across the turf in 1:40.05 under John Velazquez, Chinglish beat Humble and Hungry by 2 ¾ lengths. Master Dunker rallied from far back to take third. Early pacesetter Joes Blazing Aaron, the 7-5 favorite ridden by Julien Leparoux, faded to fourth.

Vengeful Wildcat Strikes In Chick Lang Stakes

BALTIMORE, 05-21-11 – New Farm’s Vengeful Wildcat pressed pacesetter Chipshot before wresting the lead in mid-stretch on his way to victory in the $100,000 Chick Lang Stakes, a sprint for 3-year-olds Saturday at Pimlico Race Course.

     Breaking alertly under jockey Carlos Marquez Jr., the son of Vindication prevailed by a neck and completed the six-furlong distance in 1:10.54. A winner of three races in five starts, including the Tyro Stakes at Monmouth last summer, Vengeful Wildcat is trained by Ben Perkins, Jr.

Super Espresso Perks Up In Allaire duPont Distaff

     BALTIMORE, 05-21-11 – Bobby Flay’s Super Espresso, who had a distinct dislike for turf in her previous start, demonstrated a fondness for Pimlico’s main track Saturday with a rallying score in the $100,000 Allaire duPont Distaff Stakes (G3).

     Next to last down the backstretch under jockey Ramon Dominguez, Super Espresso swept wide around horses entering the stretch before out-battling Payton d’Oro nearing the wire to win by three-quarters of a length.

No Brakes Rallies To Win Deputed Testamony Starter Handicap

     BALTIMORE, 05-21-11---Katherine Sancuk’s No Brakes rallied from next to last to win the $25,000 Deputed Testamony Starter Handicap, the first of nine stakes on Preakness Day.

Animal Kingdom Arrives At Preakness Stakes Barn

     BALTIMORE, 05-21-11---Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom completed his journey to the Preakness Stakes at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, just under 12 hours before he will compete in the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown at historic Pimlico Race Course.

     Post time for the 136th running of the Preakness is 6:20 p.m.

Royal Delta Rolls to Victory in The Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

     BALTIMORE, 05-20-11---Royal Delta got the jump on the competition with a decisive move in the second turn and rolled to a 2½ -length victory in the $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Friday at Pimlico Race Course. The Empire Maker filly trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, completed the 1 1/8 miles in 1:49 3/5 over a fast track to earn the winner’s share of $150,000 in the Grade 2 stake for 3-year-old fillies. Buster’s Ready was second, 5 ¼ lengths ahead of Hot Summer.

Excited Bounds To Victory In Hilltop Stakes

     BALTIMORE 05-20-11 –Michael B. Tabor’s Excited worked her way out of traffic and galloped to victory in the $75,000 Hilltop Stakes, the nightcap on Pimlico’s Preakness Eve 13-race program.
