BALTIMORE, 05-16-08 – Concepts Unlimited Stable & Catherine J. Smith’s All Giving charged through a gaping hole along the rail to wrest command and draw away to win the $75,000 The Very One Stakes for fillies and mares. The race was switched from the turf to the muddy main track.
All Giving, 4-for-4 in her lifetime starts on off tracks, carried jockey Erick Rodriguez under the finish line in 57.46 seconds for the five-furlong distance. She won by five lengths. Speedy Cat On A Cloud shot to the lead after a scramble at the start but could not hold off the winner and finished second. Smart And Fancy was third.
The winner, an Allen’s Prospect filly trained by Flint Stites, paid $7.60. Now 4-years-old, All Giving has won eight of 18 starts, including the Conniver Stakes at Laurel Park in mid-March.
Trainer and Jockey Quotes
Flint Stites (winning trainer, All Giving) – “She just loves an off track, that’s for sure. Now, all I have to do is decide whether to keep her on dirt or go back to the turf. But there is no doubt she’s a sprinter.”
Erick Rodriguez (winning jockey, All Giving) – “I was waiting behind horses to see what would open up. The horse in front of me came out. That opened up the rail. I had a lot of horse left. He was real good.”
